X Factor 2011: Kelly Rowland’s strop after girl group were axed

The Sun today reports that new X Factor judge Kelly Rowland was so impressed with a girl band’s singer, she “stormed out” of the Manchester auditions when the other judges refused to put the band through to the next stage.
It seems the girl band’s singer, Chrissie Pitt, was told by the panel that she should ditch her friends in the band and try out again as a solo singer…
That apparently placated Kelly somewhat, and she then vowed to make the singer her protégé should she return.
The paper states, “Newcastle girl Chrissie initially sang in front of the panel – Kelly, Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh – with her band Twisted.
“But they told her that she dominated the band too much with her powerful vocals.”
Kelly apparently told Chrissie, “What are you doing with these doo-wop singers?
“You don’t need them, you’re a stand-alone singer…
“You have such a good, powerful and melodic voice.”
And after Twisted were booted by the judges, Kelly ran backstage to have a heart-to-heart with Chrissie as the audience chanted for the 26-year-old singer to return.
Kelly reportedly spent nearly half an hour convincing her to ditch her three band-mates and return to sing solo.
An insider said: “Chrissie was crying about leaving the other girls behind but Kelly persuaded her to audition by herself.”
Chrissie, who made it through to the Boot Camp stage last year, did make the decision to come back after Gary Barlow told her, “This competition needs you.”
A show insider added, “Chrissie’s so grateful to Kelly. Her former bandmates are still finding it hard to support her but she hopes they’ll come around.
“She is determined to be this year’s X Factor stand-out act.”
