X Factor judge Louis Walsh has admitted that he would “love” for Cheryl Cole to return to the show.

Speaking on Alan Carr’s Channel 4 show, Walsh said: “I wouldn’t mind her being a mentor, I’d love her to come back absolutely.”

Cole had been on the last three series of the TV talent competition but left with Simon Cowell this year to judge the US version of the hit show.

The Girls Aloud singer was publicly dumped from The X Factor USA after studio executives decided against using her.

Now there are rumours that Cheryl could return to the British version, either as a mentor or a judge for the final.

But Walsh thinks it is more likely to be Simon Cowell himself who does the latter.

“I think Simon is probably going to come back because the show is going to be so big, he’s going to want to be involved,” he told Carr.

He also joked that he was glad not to have been offered the American show, saying: “I’m glad I didn’t get the gig now, because I’d have been sent home on the first boat.”
