Cheryl Cole was pictured last night, touching down on American soil and arriving at Los Angeles’ LAX airport.

The ‘Promise This’ hitmaker sported a wide smile and a pair of huge sunglasses as she made her return to America, where she is thought to have been summoned to record her final X Factor USA scenes.

It has been reported that Cole had no desire to go back, but was ordered by Fox bosses to film some commentary which would explain her departure from the TV talent show, to viewers who will be tuning in this September.

She was offered moral support for the occasion by her former Girls Aloud band mate Kimberley Walsh, who clutched her hand leaving the airport and led her through the crowd of waiting paparazzi.

Cheryl was sacked by Simon Cowell and Fox bosses in May 2011, and was later replaced on the judging panel by former co-host and Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger.

Some insiders have suggested that she was let go because she was homesick and because she was considering a reunion with her cheating ex-husband Ashley Cole, which Simon Cowell knew her fans could not accept.

The pair have since been pictured together, most recently at Cheryl’s 28th birthday party in London last week, and it is claimed that they are preparing to move back in together, though the football star is said to have insisted that her mother, Joan Callaghan, does not live with them this time round.
