X Factor judge Gary Barlow reportedly paid for a pensioner’s taxi home after she auditioned for the show on Thursday.

Ann Tunstall travelled 70 miles on public transport from Brighton to audition at the O2 in South-East London.

The 70-year-old performed The Hills Are Alive from the film The Sound of Music.

After her performance, the Take That singer insisted that she took a taxi home at his expense.

It is thought that the trip set the singer back £100.

He is quoted by The Sun saying: “My assistant is down there and I’m going to get you a cab to take you back to Brighton.

“I thought that was a very nice audition – but did you make a couple of words up?”

Fellow judge Tulisa Contostavlos added: “Ann, you are so cute. I wish you were my nan. I want to cuddle you.”

Tunstall’s fate will be revealed when the show returns to our screens in August.

The pensioner previously made it through to the Boot Camp stage of the talent show.
